This is the meetup of a planet that rules a mutable or changeable air sign (Gemini) with a cardinal or initiating air sign (Libra). Air signs are all about thought and ideas. Air is everywhere and the air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) take on the qualities of the lightness of air. Mercury ruling mutable air (and mutable earth, since Mercury also rules Virgo) and aligning with cardinal air means there is a BIG opportunity for change as it pertains to how we think and communicate, particularly in our partnerships and relationships.

During this particular transit of Mercury through Libra there’s a lot of planetary influence to consider. On September 27th, 2020, while we’ll be experiencing a New Moon in Virgo, Mercury in Libra will make an exact square to Mars, retrograde in Libra, an inconjunction to Neptune, retrograde in Pisces, and a square to Pluto, retrograde in Capricorn. This is some intense energy that shouldn’t be taken lightly and ultimately presents us with some new opportunities for better understanding and communication.
The square to Mars retrograde, in its home sign, indicates the potential to finally speak on relationship issues that have been boiling under the surface, but, caution must be exercised as this energy can manifest impulsively, suddenly, and explosively. Knowing it’s happening is half the battle, but, it would be an excellent time to try to embody the more positive keywords of Libra energy when we express ourselves.
The inconjunction to Neptune, retrograde and at home in Pisces, has the potential to pull the wool off of communication issues that previously seemed difficult to understand and reconcile. For some, clarity can come from this influence while for others this may further complicate clear understanding and resolve. The key is to stay calm, communicate as clearly as possible, and LISTEN carefully lest you misunderstand and misinterpret others, disrupting any chance for resolve and mutual understanding.
The square to Pluto, retrograde in Capricorn, highlights power struggles regarding “who’s the boss” in conversations. The urge to change existing and outdated ideas about our partnerships and/or who has held the majority of the control will be present. If you’ve felt like there have been power struggles in your one-to-one relationships and that you’ve felt disempowered or controlled, you will be presented with a new opportunity to confront oppressive partners and dynamics. Again, the key will be embodying the higher vibrations of Libra energy instead of the lower.
Add to this that on September 24th, 2020, Mercury will oppose Mars in Aries and you can see the potential for upheaval. Unless balance is achieved between fair-mindedness and self-assertion there is a chance for arguments to ensue. Any unexpressed anger can finally rise to the surface as resentment that is expressed hot and fast. It is SUPER important to remain aware of your tone when speaking to others as well as maintaining self-awareness and control.
On September 13th, 2020, Mercury will enter its pre-shadow zone- the area that will be covered when Mercury retrogrades in Scorpio and back into Libra. Any issues, circumstances, encounters, and/or occurrences that happen from September 13th through October 13 will be revisited once Mercury goes direct again on November 3rd, 2020. Make sure you are consciously aware of the energy you’re putting out, how you’re expressing yourself, and what it is that you’re saying.
